ENTROPY LOOP #1
In the Entropy Loop series (2017-—), 16mm images from educational films glorifying capitalism, masculinity, marriage, and America are physically looped and degraded in real time through scratches, hole punches, marks, and burns. The repetition of the loop becomes simultaneously oppressive and humorous, as we confront the absurd, recursive logic of systems of oppression latent in these propagandistic images. The performance continues until the loop breaks.
The images displayed are stills of the resulting damage to the 16mm film used in the first iteration of this performance.
The performance for Entropy Loop #1 took place at the Victoria Theater in San Francisco, CA on December 31, 2017 as part of Synthethesia. As the loop is destroyed at during the screening process, the performance can only occur once. After which, the stills of the film are printed and displayed.
